Centre represents a comprehensive and
interdisciplinary initiative to study political
institutions and processes. The Centre is wedded
to the task of studying the institutional
context of politics as well as the process of
mobilization of different sections of society
into organized politics.
Social movements is an important theme on the
agenda. The study of elections will also be
undertaken to highlight the elements of critical
campaign strategies, recruitment of support,
intra and inter-party cleavages as well as
inter-party alignments. It seeks to place
special emphasis on the study of institutions
for democratic decentralization and the linkages
among the political institutions at federal,
intermediate and local levels. While promoting
research on the above themes in the context of
Uttar Pradesh, comparative endeavor on the
context, characteristics and results of
political processes is also encouraged.
